The “Special” Range Rover Sport SVR

    8. September 2016

This is the Range Rover Sport SVR

#JustSayin right now before we even begin. The Range Rover Sport SVR is one of the best we have had the pleasure of driving. At mr.goodlife we drive a variety of the most awesome cars around so we are thankfully able to test the “creme of the crop” but this thing is the vanilla ice cream. Strap up your seatbelt and brace yourself for one hell of a ride.

The Range Rover Sport SVR, is a specially modified Range Rover Sport by JLRs in-house team, Special Vehicle Operations. These guys are the secret weapon of Land Rover and Jaguar. Something like Special Forces to the army, or Mi6 to the Police. They are like Q to James Bond and they know how to put the wow factor into any car they touch.

Powered by a 5.0 litre V8 Supercharged Petrol Engine, modded by SVR themselves this monster truck gets from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and climbs to heights of 162mph. The Range Sport SVR boasts 550hp and produces a max torque of 680Nm but thats just the figures. The experience of driving this thing is where the car really shows what its made of. Metal, Rubber and Va Va Voom!

The deep rumbling V8 exhaust note, which is quickly becoming one of SVRs staple features does not disappoint and the driving dynamics are simply unnatural for a car this size. Its incredibly stable and really hunkers down on those corners. The chassis is so rigid and balanced that even in the most demanding handling situations you are able to drive almost as if you are in a road car. Simultaneously you can just go off roading as if you were in a normal Range Rover, which we all know as one of the best off-roaders in the game. This is heavy duty stuff here!

Thanks to vigorous testing and engineering down to the finest details, SVO have managed to get the best out of both worlds of this car. It’s completely sporting, noisy, beastly, agile and it even drifts too. However, take it off road and voila! You are able to handle the most demanding obstructions, wade through deep water and drive at some quite silly angles both vertically and horizontally. We know, we tried!

Starting at a cool £93,000 it’s competing with the likes of the Mercedes GLE 63, BMW’s X6M and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo but to be fair, it lapped the Nurburgring in 8 minutes and 14 seconds which is fast enough for me…

The interior also makes this car special as it’s completely different to your normal Range Sport. They have ripped out those big arm chair leathers (which I have to say are some of the best in the automotive world) and changed them for some unique bucket seats with SVR branding that not only look amazing but perform surprisingly well. They are comfy, customisable and heated to suit all purposes. The seats are also 60:40 Folding for those good-life shopping sprees and come in some gorgeous leather tans. The Meridian Audio system delivers nicely for the sound, and the infotainment interface is up to scratch now that it’s running newer software. You will be able to interact with the vehicle via InControl app for IOS users too.

Overall this car is about the complete experience on offer, and SVO have done a fantastic job ensuring every aspect of this car from performance to interior feel and styling are on point. The Range Rover Sport SVR makes for a great drive in all weather, its safe, comfortable, fun to drive, spacious and extremely capable both on and off road. This is the pick of the Range Rover family for us and it really packs a punch. Its amongst our favourites in the range < see what we did there?

Head over to Land Rover to read a little more about this “Special” toy.
