    Facebook Buying WhatsApp – $16 Billion In Cash And Stock

    The largest online social network Facebook buys the competitor WhatsApp. Facebook pays $16 billion in cash. Furthermore, additional shares with a value of around $ 3 billion dollar will go to the founder Jan Koum and Brian Acton, as well as to the 50 employees of WhatsApp . The service has established itself as an SMS alternative since its founding in 2009 and has around 450 million users who use the service daily.

    ” More than 1 million people sign up for WhatsApp every day and it is on its way to connecting one billion people.” said Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg. Therefore, the service is very valuable. Facebook itself comes to more than 1.2 billion users.

    With this acquisition, Facebook has set a further milestone in the history of the company.
